i really hate working 3 out of 4 weekends.
it's not like i want to spend time with my children...
this is truely getting beyond a joke, if everyone wasn't talking doom and gloom about the economic climate i would probably have quit (or at least gotten serious about applying for other jobs).
no tangable progress vw wise. spent a little time with my head in the vw suspension suning book. always interesting to read/learn/relearn. i'm surprised with how much i'm forgetting of late. it is probably from underuse of my brain. though on a slight tangent, my typing speed has picked up quite nicely in the last little while.
my desire for a drivable vw just keeps getting stronger. exactly what i'm going to do about it i'm not sure. my ragtop is in some ways the most logical choice as far as completeness, rust, spares and availability are concerned but also the worst as far as makeing a proper restoration really difficult.
there are a few vw's about that might be able to come my way for a fairly minimal outlay but do i want to split my focus? there is the lowlight panel i paid for that is still sitting in the guys shed, but i have no spares bar engine stuff and it is bound to need some bits to get it registered, not be remotly practical as a part time family car and not as light on fuel as a beetle. the really clean oval o found ages ago may still be in the shed it was in but it would require a fair outlay of $ + time to get it here (though i do have a reasonable amount of stuff needed to get it back to original plus mech spares to keep it going once it was running) plus it has been my holy grail in VW forn for years.
for the time being it is all pipe dreaming. first i need to negotiate with my wife... wish me luck on that one. she is convinced that the money would be better spent on "a cheap run about" that would cost about the same but decrease in value, i would not be able to maintain myself plus i would hate it. why do people not understand that an old car can make a perfectly good daily driver as long as you are prepared to put in a little extra effort to keep it well maintained. is a person more likely to look after something they love or something that they hate?
