some days things go right.
to be hones t i wasn't really looking foward to today as the area manager was coming in to work. which generally means lots of work or at least trying to look buisy. (actually with this new area manager it is work... he keeps us going).
as expected between the boss and the area manager we were buisy all morning. add in a few customers (some of whome even bought stuff) and the morning flew bye. always a good thing. the afternoon was full as well so time was flying. then i get called into the office by the boss and the area manager... it could be either good or bad... i'm about at the end of the road as far as warnings re not making my sales budget. aka early retirement (very very early) was a definate prospect. i hauled in a chair and sat down to be told that it was being moved to the warehouse and the warehouse guy was coming on the sales floor full time. YEAH! i first voiced my interest in going to the warehouse if a possition opened up about a year ago. i know that both the warehouse guys were looking at other options but didn't think that my luck would hold out till a spot opened up.
i'm not cut out to be a salesman. basically i don't like lying to the customers. if i had lower standards it may now be a lie. but as i grew up in a house full of antiques, i have trouble selling cheap furniture to people. i know this stuff won't last... some things i like selling as i think they are good, but not that much.
working in the warehouse is an honest job... well basically an honest job, a lot less bending of the truth than on the sales floor. plus a dose of good hard work is good for my head. not only that but i realized that as we do services on furniture with issues and assemble stuff, if i buy tools and use them for work for a little while i can claim them back on my tax... i have my eye on a set of stahlwille spanners that would be great for assembling cheap chairs...
then the is the best bit of all. it means that instead of having every third weekend at home i'll get every second weekend. i may actually get to spend some time with my kids.
as an aside i just sprung my wife for smoking in the house... fuck that for a joke. when we moved into a house together years ago we agreed that there would be no smoking in the house. she already had kids and we agreed that it was uncool. now she is pushing it more and more. (i quit early last year so can pick it a lot better now). she is as bad as our 12 yo with asbergers when it comes to lying when spring cold. it is blatantly obvious but still she says she has no idea... so pissed off. it is just because she couldn't be assed going outside. it was an ok day here, not perfect but not the dead of winter... just plain lazy.
end rant now.
damn i'm a grumpy old bastard.
