As the title says,  tell us what your first VW was. When you had it.

If you have any pics, or stories or anything else interesting about it, post it up here.

This is our first VW. Dug the bug. He was a 1964 1300, 6volt back then. We had him for a couple of years.

I bought him by accident, when I was looking for any car for my then girlfriend (now wife) and just spotted this by the side of the road. Eventually we blew up the motor after running it pretty much dry.

This is back in 1996 when I was 20:

At 16, my first car was nearly a Beetle, but I ended up with a mini instead.

My first VW was a 1973 Westphalia. It was a low miles (I was living in the UK back then) one owner, full history, bus that me and my mate bought between us for 1300 GBP. Our plan was to travel round Europe in it. This was back in '92, I was about 21.

It was a two tone white over green walk-through, with a yellowy-beige plaid interior. All original, with a full width rock-n-roll bed in the back and a full width bed up in the pop-top, it was great. Me and may mate spent about a year traveling around West Europe in it, from Holland, through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, down through France, into Spain and Portugal. It was an awesome road trip, and one that I will never forget.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics, of either the bus or the trip. I long ago lost touch with the guy I traveled with.

I learned a lot about living in a bus from that trip, mostly that the cupboards, sink, coolbox / fridge, stove etc, all take up LOTS of room. When there are two of you stuck in a bus, as it has rained solid for a week and you can't venture outside, you would prefer the extra space over a cupboard full of stuff. In a year of traveling, we never unpacked that cupboard once.

Maybe I should see if I can track down some pics. Wow, would love to see pics of that trip and me nearly 20 years back. What a blast.

I bought my first vw in 1994, i was 15 and it was a 1300 1966 bug. It was yellow and white,6 volt and below standard hight. Being a young fella i wanted it higher so i put landcruiser pump up shockers in the back and wide rims all round. i also converted it to 12volt. My dad drove it till i was legal and then the poor little bug didnt know what hit it ;) i drove it hard and rough, hitting mud puddles, kurbs and anything else that got in my way at speed, but the 66 took it all in its stride. The only reason i stopped driving it was the pedals rusted away from the floor pan and had no way of repairing it. i paid $450 for it and it was the best little car i ever owned.
