The National Bug-In is the coming together of various Volkswagen Clubs in Australia to partake in a long weekend of camaraderie and friendly competition. The National Bug-In is hosted by a different state based VW Club over the Easter weekend every year, moving from State to State in an anti-clockwise direction.
The 1st Bug-In was organised by the then Volkswagen Australasia Pty Ltd in Albury, NSW, on the Australia Day Weekend, 1970. and only involved the NSW and VIC VW clubs of the day. In the following years SA attended and in 1973 was the first 'all States' Bug-In. In 2007 Tasmania joined this National event.
The 1st ever Bug-In consisted of a race meeting at Hume Weir race circuit, a grass motorkhana on the banks of the Murray River, a car trial and a social trip to Falls Creek snowfields in northern Victoria. This has been the one and only Bug-In, (so far) which has featured snow. . The following year the SA VW club attended, and 1973 was the first 'all States' Bug-In. You can read the old VW club magazines at the State Library of NSW - that's where I read up the history of it. My copies only go back to 1982.
The event is held primarily for the benefit of VW Club members and enthusiasts throughout Australia. The host VW Clubs stage each of the events on a voluntary basis. The events usually include a welcome get together, show and shine, MotorKhana and other motorsports events like Lapdash and Khanacross (although more recently motorsport has taken a back seat or dropped off due to cost and other constraints), presentation dinner, observations runs, convoys, farewell activities and in later years an extended tour that allows members to continue the celebration of the VW by touring in convoy on the much loved Australian pastime of the 'road trip'.
You can read the old VW club magazines at the State Library of NSW
The aim of this group is to gather informations regarding the history of the National Bug-In, share experiences photos and videos, promote upcoming and future National Bug-Ins and to bring all VW club members closer together as a group. Due to the popularity of show and shine events such as Day of the Volkswagen, Volksfest and the like, the Bug-In Car Show and Shine is open to all VW owners, not just members attending the Bug-In. Hopefully you will be interested enough to join a club and participate in this national event getting close to celebrating its 50th annual running

Entries to the Shannons Sellicks Beach Historic Motorcycle Races are now open.

Machines eligible for the Sellicks Beach Historic Motorcycle Races will be based on the rules set out in Motorcycling Australias rule book for historic road racing and classic motocross (MomS).

But to make things a bit simpler, the Race Committee has produced a Guide To Machine Eligibility, Preparation and Protective Clothing.
The Levis MCC thanks the many people who have been sending in pictures and other momentos of the Sellicks Beach Races.

Don't forget that entries for the historic return of racing to Sellicks Beach will open on Monday, 1st August - and we expect places to fill fast.

You will be able to enter on-line, here on the Levis MCC web site or download the entry form and mail it in.
Work has started in earnest with our team out on the beach measuring out the track and layout of the event.

The annual Sellicks Beach Speed Trials started in about 1913 and soon became the main annual fixtures of the Levis Social Club (as it was then called). The trials were generally run on the Australia Day weekend.
The course was laid out over a 1.6 kilometre (1 Mile) stretch of beach between Silver Sands and Sellicks Beach at each end, riders had to make a 180 degree hair-pin turn, going backwards and forwards over a set race distance. No fatalities were ever recorded.
The last official Levis MCC race meeting at Sellicks Beach was in 1953. There have been two re-enactments since then (1986 and 1992).

In 2017 we will racing on a 1.6 km (one mile) course with two barrels 800 metres (half mile) apart. The racing will start from the Silver Sands Ramp running south toward Sellicks.

Tickets will go on sale in Sep/Oct. Because of the environmental and cultural significance of the area we are limited to ten thousand people at each day of the two day event.

Entry to the track on the day will be by pre-purchased ticket only. THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE.
We are very grateful to the Onkaparinga Council and everyone in the local area for giving us the opportunity to bring this important piece of South Australian history back to life.

Cars and Coffee Blackwood 2017 Febuary is coming up fast on the 26th, We're looking forward to seeing you all come along Febuary with some more summer motoring fun. So get your special interest car out put the windows down the top down if you can, put your sunnys on and come along to Woolworths car park Blackwood Sunday morning of the 26th of Febuary for the next Coffee and Cars and show off your pride and joy for a couple hours before heading off on your Sunday drive in the sun. Grab a coffee and some breakfast when you get here then check out the cars and chat with your buddys. it starts at 8am and your welcome to come as early as you dare to get the best parks. Share the event round and add your friends to the invite list and make a morning of it with a nice drive through the Adelaide hills after.

PS Please park your daily car in the side street at the back of Woolworths if your just coming for a look as space is very limited for people wanting to show there cars off, remember to start thinking about heading off from about 10am as the Sunday trader shoppers start turning up at 11am, please remember to place all rubbish in the bins and leave the carpark clean and tidy as we found it as we want to be welcome back, also last of all NO nooning showoffs when coming or leaving please. Blackwood get extremely busy and its not the time or the place, your not impressing anybody by doing so.

Thank you everyone, we look forward to having you all along.

AFAIK you need to modify the cylinder tin to fit and make / buy a generator stand and pulley to suit. The other way you can go is what I've done on my Type 4 which is to use a Porsche fan and glass shroud. There used to be a company here in Aus who did these - #Sharpbuilt Pretty sure he's still making them. If not you might be able to pick one up second hand.  More ...

  • It's almost that time again, ParkPlatz is on this weekend. Also, EuroFest is on on Sunday.

Don't know what everyone else is doing, but there is a cruise up to Birdwood National Museum Sunday morning. Starts at TTP car park across from MacDonald's there. 8:45am to start rolling out around 9:30am.
Hit me up if you're keen and we can do a pre-meet somewhere and head to TTP together. Could be fun!
